From exercising to baking to arts and crafts, we list 10 activities you can enjoy with items you already have at home.

They say home is where the heart is. And while we all love being home with our families, we probably didn’t expect having to stay at home for weeks. We need creative outlets or fun activities (other than binge-watching) to not only entertain the kids, but maintain our sanity in between work and household chores. Here are 10 fun activities you can try with things you probably already have at home.

Take up yoga
Even if you are stuck indoors, there are still ways to keep healthy – both physically and mentally. A good activity that helps with both is yoga. You just need a mat or a large towel. Yoga will help you keep fit, teach you to focus on your breathing, and help you find your inner peace during this tumultuous time. There are several online yoga classes available. If you want to try a live virtual class, check out I Go Beyond Yoga. The studio is offering free live virtual yoga and meditation classes.

Game night
Help the family de-stress by indulging in some friendly competition. It’s a great time to dust off those old board games and introduce the little ones to classics like Clue, Monopoly, or Sorry. If you don’t have access to physical board games, Hasbro offers Monopoly and Clue apps online. You can even play virtual Cards Against Humanity with friends via video call.

Take in some culture
Have you ever wanted to visit the Louvre? Now you can! You can enjoy amazing exhibits and stunning works of art without leaving your couch through virtual museum tours. If you want to try a tour the whole family will enjoy, the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History offers an online 360-degree tour of their galleries including great exhibits for the little ones like the Hall of Mammals, Dinosaurs Hall, and the Insect Zoo.

Rise to the dance challenge
Do you want to show off your dance skills? Dance challenges are all the rage these days and you can find several fun ones like “Renegade” or “Savage” on TikTok. If you haven’t succumbed to the short-form video platform yet, Instagram has several as well.

Coffee with a twist
At this time when days and nights blur into one, coffee is a necessity. But that doesn’t mean you should stick to the same old cup of java. If you’re missing your designer coffee shop fix, shake things up a bit with the trending #DalgonaCoffee. Popularized by South Korean food vloggers, this coffee is simple to make and only needs ingredients you already have in the pantry. Bonus – it’s super photogenic. Here’s a super simple tutorial.

Learn to draw
Revisit your drawing talents! Together with the kids, there are several virtual drawing classes you can take online. Some fun ones are the daily live drawing classes that Papemelroti artist Robert Alejandro offers on his Facebook page. They are fun and easy to follow.

Unearth those memories
If you’ve been meaning to do some spring-cleaning, this is the perfect time. Make it fun for both you and your kids by pulling out old photo albums and scrapbooks and sharing your best memories with them. It’ll be a nice way for them to learn more about their parents and a cool look back for you.

Create a treasure hunt
A really fun activity for the whole household is a treasure hunt. You can hide clues all over your home and make brainteasers for your kids and spouse to solve to find the treasure (which can be as simple as a chocolate bar or an unopened bag of chips). If you need some inspiration, here’s a simple treasure hunt template you can download and print at home.

Enjoy a bite of cake
If you want to satisfy your sweet tooth but are low on ingredients (or you just don’t want to bake an entire cake), mug cakes are easy to make and are the perfect size for individual snacking. Plus you can experiment with ingredients and flavors. Here are 4 simple recipes to try.

Grow veggies
Sustainable food is even more important than ever. With that in mind, consider trying to grow vegetables. Not only will it help you during the quarantine, but it’s also fun to see your plants grow and it’s something you’ll always be able to utilize. You don’t need seeds and saplings to do this either. There are several veggies you can regrow from store-bought vegetables like spring onions, lettuce, and potatoes.

#StayHome and Bond
You don’t need to go out or spend a lot of money to have fun with your family – and now is the perfect time to rediscover simple pleasures with the people who matter most to you.
