Madalas Bang Dumumi Kada Araw? What to Do When Your Child Has Diarrhea
It's completely normal to worry when your child seems to be rushing to the bathroom constantly. You want them to be comfortable and happy.
Let's check what's going on and what simple steps you can take at home!
Your At-Home "Poop Check"
Observing your child’s stool is the best first step. Notice these three things:
1. Color

2. Consistency
Based on the Bristol Stool Scale:
- Just right: Soft, formed stools that look like a smooth or cracked sausage (Type 3 or 4).
- Too hard: Small, dry lumps (Type 1 or 2) may be a sign of constipation.
- Too loose: Mushy or watery stool (Type 6 or 7) points to diarrhea.

2. Frequency
| Category | What It Means | How It Looks / Key Signs |
| Normal Frequency | Many healthy kids aged 3+ poop once a day. | 1–3 times a day can still be normal as long as stools are formed and the child feels fine. |
| Likely Diarrhea | Frequency increases beyond the child’s usual pattern. | Stools are loose or watery, accompanied by cramps, gas, or an urgent need to go, and are a clear change from the child’s usual pattern. More than 2x/day is not automatically diarrhea unless stools are loose and frequent. |
What To Do If Your Child Has Diarrhea
Start with fluids. Give water or an oral rehydration solution in small, frequent sips to prevent dehydration. Keep meals gentle and simple—offer easy foods like rice, bananas, eggs, broth, and soft soups. Let your child rest, and watch how they feel over the next 24 to 48 hours.
Sometimes, after a stomach bug, a child becomes temporarily sensitive to lactose, the natural sugar in milk. You might notice loose stools, gas, and tummy aches soon after dairy. This doesn’t mean you must remove milk forever. It simply means the tummy may need a gentler milk while it recovers.
