Your little one’s first year is a time of rapid growth, especially from six to 12 months, when babies start eating solid or semi-solid foods (also called complementary foods) while continuing to breastfeed.

Around six months, babies need more nutrients. That’s why every bit of nutrient matters. During this stage, iron becomes especially important, as it plays a key role in healthy growth and development and can be challenging to get in sufficient amounts from complementary foods alone.¹

The real-life challenge: “busog” isn’t always enough

The real-life challenge: “busog” isn’t always enough

Many Filipino parents do their best with what’s available day to day, but complementary feeding often happens alongside constraints, like:

- Limited time for meal preparation

- Tight household budgets

- Changing appetite and food preferences

- Limited food variety depending on schedule and access

Because of this, your little one’s meals may be filling, but not always nutrient-dense, meaning they might still be missing key nutrients needed to support healthy growth and development.

Nutrition guidance for this age emphasizes something important: improving baby’s diet isn’t only about adding more food, but about improving food quality and helping parents/caregivers feel confident with practical, consistent choices at home.¹
